Basically there is not much difference because ligands are lewis bases.Lewis bases are compunds which donate electron pairs.A ligand is an ion or molecule that binds to a central metal atom to form a coordination complex. You can say ligands are special lewis bases.so there arent any differences excpet that ligands are basically used in coordinate chemistry.
